Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore @ Track Dream Bowl Palace Open

POSTED BY on May 2 under Bowling

At the Track Dream Bowl Palace Open in Munich, World champion Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore was Malaysia’s best performer. In step three of the final round with lines of 214, 172, 223, 179 for a 779 (including 32 bonus pins) total, Jacqueline battled back from poor start to finish 17th.

Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi was bundled out in step two, while compatriot Syafiq Ridhwan finished 20th at the same step by posting a four-game total of 769 pinfalls. However, the trip is expected to perform better in the EBT Masters, also in Munich, where they were due to play late.

From last year’s European tour rankings, the Masters comprises the top 16 men’s and women’s bowlers. In the event, Malaysia is competing for the first time. Team manager Cheah Ban Cheng said Syafiq and Jacqueline were not at their best in step three.

Ban Cheng via e-mail said that they each had two bad games and although they tried hard to bounce back, it was not enough to get them into the quarterfinals.

Four-time PBA champion Mike Fagan of the United States edged Colombia’s two-time women’s champion Clara Juliana Guerrero 469-446 (played over two games) in the final, won his fifth European title in Munich.

Paula Vidad Claimed The 2011 USBC Senior Queens Title

POSTED BY on Apr 28 under Bowling

Paula VidadOn Wednesday at the Oncenter Convention Center, Paula Vidad of Sun City, Calif., claimed the 2011 United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens title in record fashion as she defeated defending champion Char Hammel of Las Vegas.

While Hammel finished with 211, 225 and 202 for a 638 set, Vidad put together games of 225, 221 and 269 for a 715 series, the highest championship match score in USBC Senior Queens history. With 705, Hammel previously held the record which she shot on the way to the crown in El Paso, Texas, last year.

Even though Vidad started the finale with a spare and five strikes to pull away, only 10 pins separated Vidad and Hammel after the second game of their three game title bout. Hammel spared in frames four through six and never recovered.

Hammel needed to defeat Vidad twice to become the first bowler in the event’s 11 year history to claim back to back titles because the Senior Queens uses a true double elimination format. She beat defending champion Janine Primrose of Gardnerville, Nev., to win the event last year.

While Hammel earned $1,800 for second place, the victory earned Vidad a check for $3,500, a tiara, pendant and trophy. 2011 Senior Queens featured 76 of the world’s best female bowlers age 50 and older.

As the national governing body, the United States Bowling Congress, ensures the integrity and protects the future of the sport, provides programs and services to more than two million adult and youth members and enhances the bowling experience.

POSTED BY on Apr 9 under Bowling Championship

USBC Women's ChampionshipJust a few hours down the Thruway at the Oncenter in Syracuse, the 2011 USBC Women’s Championship opened Thursday.

At the Oncenter over the next 88 days, more than 30,000 bowlers are expected to compete in the national tournament. The last time the Women’s Championship was held in Syracuse was 1954. It also hosted the 1940 tournament.

Featuring the world’s largest mobile scoreboard, since late February, the main exhibit level at the Oncenter was transformed into a 48-lane bowling center. The USBC Women’s Championships continue through July 3rd. The tournament is open to the public, most days for free.

From April 22-27, the Oncenter also will be the venue for the USBC Queens and the USBC Senior Queens Tournament. Kelly Kulick is the defending champion in the one of the surviving major tournaments for women. On April 27, the stepladder finals for the Queens will be shown live on ESPN2.

When participants in the U.S. Bowling Congress Women’s Championships aren’t on the lanes, they’re in the area’s hotels. Sixteen properties have committed 36,000 rooms to the event over the next three months and tourism officials say they’re already half full.

Many establishments are rolling out the red carpets and putting up banners for the bowlers. Waiters at Ale’N Angus Pub, 238 Harrison St., are wearing bowling shirts for the duration of the tournament. Restaurant specials have a bowling theme, like the “7-10 split,” a choice of soup and salad for $7.10. Owner Randy Beach said the pub expects to see a 25 percent increase in its business due to the tournament.

Construction of New Bowling Alley at Wahooz Family Fun Zone

POSTED BY on Mar 25 under Bowling

At 1385 Blue Marlin Lane in Meridian, Wahooz Family Fun Zone plans to open a 24 lane bowling center. In 25 years it will be the first of its kind in the Treasure Valley.

Led by Boise’s Russell Construction, this project starts on April 4. The company says the new alley will create 400 construction related jobs and 25 permanent jobs.

In front of Wahooz the 26,000 square foot bowling center will be built, and will double Wahooz space. The bowling center rounds out Wahooz year round entertainment calendar, which currently includes go karts, miniature golf, laser tag and an arcade, plus Roaring Springs Waterpark, located next door. Wahooz will remain open for business during the entire construction schedule.

Tiffany Quilici, Marketing Director for Roaring Springs Water Park and the Wahooz Family Fun Zone said that, Pinz will feature high end, contemporary interiors in a smoke-free, family-friendly atmosphere. Bowlers can watch their favorite sporting events or music videos on giant HD projection screens at the end of each lane. Pinz will also feature Cosmic Bowling with glowing lanes, shoes and balls. She further added that, Pinz will offer gourmet appetizers, entrees and desserts served right at your lane. Leagues for all ages will start in January of 2012.

For corporate events and other parties, eight private lanes will be available in what’s being described as “the fun yet sophisticated Z Lounge.” The appearance of the lounge will be similar to the Shenan Bowling Center in Texas.

2011 USBC Open Championships Lane Pattern Released On Monday

POSTED BY on Mar 1 under Bowling Championship

On Monday, the 2011 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships lane pattern was released. Bowlers who have been curious about this year’s oil pattern now can see the condition they’ll be facing at the National Bowling Stadium.

On March 4, the USBC Open Championship tournament begins and will run for 122 successive days before concluding on July 3. More than 63,000 bowlers will make their way to The Biggest Little City in the World to compete in team, doubles and singles as the competition will run from 7 a.m. until 3 a.m. daily.

The important basics are that, than last year the pattern is a foot longer at 41 feet and has a little more oil at 27.35 ml vs. 26.05 ml but with the reverse oil cut back from 4.7 ml to 3.4 ml. The shape is fairly similar to the 2010 pattern. Using the minus 31 theorem, a 41foot pattern should be played with a breakpoint about 10 boards.

With the volume of oil, rough surface balls (perhaps 1,000 Abralon) that roll smoothly (probably symmetricals) will be best on the fresh pattern, both to tame the reaction and provide control, as well as break down the shot. That volume and it being a Sport pattern also indicates that starting with a fairly straight angle of attack crossing the arrows in the same area as your breakpoint probably is best. Some think the pattern may be slightly touchier but it will be hard to say until it’s bowled on.

POSTED BY on Feb 19 under Bowling Championship

On Friday, the Keansburg boys bowling team won its first NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title in school history. In the best of 5 Baker style final, the Titans defeated Jackson Memorial, 3-1.

Ray Coleman, Keansburg head coach was extremely proud of the way his players bowled the entire day. He said that the kids were really outstanding bowlers. They had been working hard all year and we felt really good coming into the tournament.

For the team’s seniors in yesterday’s NJSIAA team finals at the Brunswick Zone Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick, Keansburg juniors Dale Barshewski and Korrie O’Hanlon wanted to do something special.

Keansburg went up against the Group II state champion Ocean Township in the TOC semifinal match after winning the Group I title. The Titans were able to come out with a win, 237-235, sending them to the TOC final as it came down to the fifth and deciding game.

Jackson Memorial got off to a good start and took the first game 235-179, in the TOC final. With a 244-200 victory Keansburg responded in the second game and never looked back. In the third game the Titans hit an incredible nine strikes in a row, and carried that momentum into the deciding fourth game, winning 215-177 for the title.

From junior Dale Barshewski, the Titans also received a strong performance, who anchored in the Baker final. On Wednesday, Barshewski, who finished seventh overall in the individual tournament, said he knew how well the team worked together this season.

Bowling – MacLelland Clings to PBA Tournament of Champions Lead

POSTED BY on Jan 22 under Bowling

In the $1 million Professional Bowlers Association Tournament of Champions at Red Rock Lanes, former collegiate bowling star Dan MacLelland of Saginaw, Mich., carried a 94–pin lead. Fellow Saginaw resident Tom Smallwood made the biggest move during Friday’s early round. He advanced from 13th place to sixth.

MacLelland finished with an 8-8 match play record and a 50-pin 11,620 pins. At the end of qualifying Thursday afternoon, he took the lead and he has remained in front ever since. On Friday’s afternoon, Smallwood swept all eight matches to close to within seven pins of advancing to Saturday’s final four.

At Saginaw Valley State between 2007 and 2009, MacLelland has been a three-time Collegiate All-American. In June of 2010, he won his only PBA Regional title in Michigan and got qualified for the Tournament of Champions. He came close to Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour national title during the PBA World Series of Bowling in November, although he has never won the same. Before losing in the title match to Finland’s Osku Palermaa, 173-149, he was the GEICO Shark Championship leader.

The TOC leader board is dominated by high-rev players, topped by MacLelland and Palermaa, with no thumber Tom Daugherty in third and Andres Gomez in fourth. The other players who followed are Chris Barnes, Mike Fagan, Parker Bohn III, Sean Rash, Mike Koivuniemi and Bill O’Neill.

However, it won’t be about who has the most revs, it will be about who has the most heart, when it comes down to the final games to determine who gets to compete for the biggest chunk of change in bowling history.

The top four players will compete for the PBA-record $250,000 first prize in Saturday’s live stepladder finals on ABC at 2:30 p.m. Eastern (11:30 a.m. Pacific), after Friday night’s eight-game match play round.

Vancouver Bowling Alley Stealing

POSTED BY on Jan 4 under Bowling

On Monday, burglars used a minivan to smash into a Vancouver bowling alley and steal an ATM. Vancouver police are looking for burglars. The driver of the minivan smashed right into the front doors of Allen’s Crosley Lanes on East Evergreen Boulevard and through the lobby around 3 a.m., police said that.

On surveillance camera at Donn Allen’s Crosley Lanes, the entire event was caught. The tape shows a minivan plow through the front sliding glass doors of the bowling alley, the car then backs up to an ATM on the other side of the lobby and rams into it until it falls to the ground. Both suspects got out of the car, tossed the ATM into the van and speed off, and the whole thing took just over one minute.

The driver was wearing a dark colored long sleeved sweater or shirt whereas the passenger in the van was disguised in a camouflage outfit. The minivan was described as dark in color, and a late model that would now have front and rear end damage.

Donn Allen III, the owner’s son said, “Fortunately we’ve needed a new ATM machine, not exactly the way we wanted to get it, but we’re getting a new ATM machine now”. Even though no one ever got away with anything, there have been burglaries in the past. This time they did an ATM with about $2,000 in it.

In less than a month, this is the third ATM theft in Clark County. An ATM from Z Mart and one from B&B Country Store were stolen in December. With the money still in them, police eventually found those machines alongside a road.
