Webber International University women win the 2010 U.S. Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championship
The Webber International University women’s team just became the second team to the win the 2010 U.S. Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship in its first appearance at the event. Wichita State was the first to accomplish this feat in 1975 and went on to win eight more national titles.
In the women’s final, Webber faced Mckendree. The Warriors won the first game 203-189 and then blew out eh bearcats 164-158 in Game 2 to hoist the Helmer Cup above their heads in joy.
In the opening game, the Warriors’ key player Hayley Beavis came through with a mark in the final frame to lock up the victory and needed just five pins on her first ball in the 10th frame to win the title in a sweep.
Beavis was joined on the all-tournament team by a pair of McKendree players, Lori Hanken, and Brandi Branka. They were also joined by Samantha Kelly, and Heather D’Errico.
The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship features the top 16 men’s and top 16 women’s college bowling teams in the country fighting for national titles. All 32 teams competed in a best of seven, double elimination match play in the Baker format.
The Women semifinal finished out this way: McKendree defeated Wichita State 4-2, Webber International defeated Robert Morris 4-3, and Webber International defeated Robert Morris, 4.5-3.5 which eliminated Robert Moris.
In the Championship and also in sports betting, Webber International defeated McKendree 2-0 to win the national title. Beavis said, “My teammates are so supportive, and this is just a dream come true.” This was truly a great achievement for Webber International to win during their first appearance to the event.
