Bowling- USBC Championship
The 2010 USBC Championship is under way in Reno, Nevada. As of Tuesday morning on May 27th, the scores are looking very high in these games.
Terrence Syring is leading the way over all bowlers with an average of nearly 278 pins per game. That is a very high average, but there are many bowlers that are close behind. One of the bowlers that is close behind is Earn Vollmar, a bowler from Toledo, Ohio.
Vollmar was absolutely on fire after a slow start to his day at the championship. Vollmar was off early, failing to score a strike or a spare in two of his first 3 frames. In response to his poor start, Vollmar made the decision to switch balls that he was using. After his switch the tides really turned for him. After making the ball change, Vollmar hammered home 28 straight strikes. This led him on his way to a 247 in game one and then he managed to bowl a perfect 300 in game two. His third round was no disappointment in itself, as he bowled a 264.
Vollmar isn’t the only bowler who has managed to bowl a perfect game here. Eight bowlers have scored perfect games. This includes the Vollmar, Barry Zimmerman, Ken Konczos, Duane Kilts, Rich K Robinson, Kenneth A Barton, Robert W Gotchall, and Cliff Gilliard.
To give a perspective on just how competitive these scores have been, we can examine the bowlers that are tied for 149th place, John M Bodish Jr. and Todd Swadinsky. These two bowlers are at the bottom the list, but have averaged 238 pins per game. Scores are high in Reno.
